This dual perspective ensures that your care is seamless and aligned with a shared goal of enhancing your fertility and overall well-being.
How can acupuncture support conception & fertility?
Acupuncture may support hormonal balance by helping regulate the body’s stress response and supporting the communication between the brain and reproductive system. Through its influence on the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) and Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian (HPO) axes, acupuncture may help support healthy menstrual cycles and ease associated symptoms.
In addition, our aim is to improve microcirulation to the ovaries and uterus which may help to
Promote ovulation
Support a vibrant uterine lining/environement
Improve egg quality
Encourage successful fertilisation and implantation of an embryo.
Through all our treatments, your nervous system is always at the forefront of our sessions as the nervous system plays such an important role in conception and regulating hormones.
When to start Fertility Acupuncture?
Ideally, we recommend allowing at least 3-6 months for preconception preparation. This provides time to review and optimise factors that can influence reproductive and pregnancy health, including nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, menstrual cycle health, medications and supplementation. Research has demonstraated that preconception care improves egg quality and the health of her reproductive hormones to ensure healthy gestational development and birthing outcomes.
Start where you are
While three months is a useful timeframe for preconception preparation, there is no need to wait if you are already trying to conceive. We meet you where you are in your fertility journey and develop a treatment plan based on your individual circumstances.
Whether you are planning pregnancy naturally, preparing for IVF, coming off contraception or simply wanting to optimise your health before conception, preconception care can provide a structured opportunity to prepare your body and understand your reproductive health.
Supporting both partners
Where possible, we recommend considering preconception care for both partners. Male reproductive health is an important part of fertility (as it does take two to tango, right!?), with sperm production taking approximately 2–3 months to regenerate. This means that lifestyle, nutritional and health changes made in the months before conception may be relevant to the sperm that are involved in conception.
What does a Fertility Acupuncture consultation look like?
Your fertility acupuncture consultation will first start with an indepth consultation on you and your partners health history to gather as much information as possible. You will then be given your first acupuncture treatment depending on where you are in your cycle that will best support you and where you are in that moment.
From here we will provide a treatment plan that will best support you on your fertility journey to give you the best outcomes possible. Your preconception plan may include:
Fertility acupuncture tailored to your individual needs
Menstrual cycle education and fertility awareness
Review of nutrition and dietary patterns
Assessment of lifestyle factors including sleep, exercise and stress
Nutritional and supplement considerations
Support when transitioning off hormonal contraception
TCM assessment and treatment
Support for menstrual cycle irregularities and associated symptoms
Fertility support alongside IVF or other assisted reproductive treatment
Acupuncture and wellbeing support for male fertility
Collaboration with your GP, fertility specialist, gynaecologist or other healthcare professionals when required
Please note that fertility treatment plans do require dedicated time and effort to see results. This may include regular acupuncture sessions, herbal medicines and supplements recommended to you to best support your fertility.
Fertility is a Partnership
We understand that fertility involves both partners, which is why we take a holistic approach that includes addressing male reproductive health. Sperm quality is a critical factor in successful conception and the prevention of early pregnancy loss. Factors such as motility, morphology, and count can significantly influence the outcome of your fertility journey.
To ensure the best possible results, we encourage and require that both you and your partner participate in the treatment process. By addressing male fertility alongside female reproductive health, we can work collaboratively to create an optimal environment for conception.
Our goal at Coastal Wellness is to provide comprehensive care that empowers both partners, helping you navigate this journey with confidence, knowledge, and expert support. Together, we aim to support your dream of starting or expanding your family.
