Breech Positioning & Acupunture
Acupuncture and moxibustion are safe, effective, and natural therapies commonly used in TCM therapeutics to help turn a breech baby into the optimal head-down position. Moxibustion involves the gentle application of heat from a burning herb, called mugwort, to specific acupuncture points, typically near the little toe, known as the "BL67" point. This treatment is often combined with acupuncture to stimulate the body's energy flow and encourage the baby to rotate.
For expectant mothers with breech pregnancies, acupuncture and moxibustion may provide a safe and non-invasive alternative from 33 weeks gestation.
For more information on this protocol and the plausible mechanisms of action, please view the research here: https://www.evidencebasedacupuncture.org/acupuncture-moxibustion-breech-presentation/
Labour Preparation
Acupuncture is an effective therapeutic approach to prepare the body for labor by promoting relaxation, enhancing uterine function, and improving overall well-being during the final weeks of pregnancy. By stimulating specific acupuncture points, the therapy helps balance the body’s energy, reduce stress, and address common discomforts such as pelvic pain and insomnia, all of which may aid in facilitating a smoother labor experience.
Our main aim wither acupuncture during this time is to
Promote baby descending into the pelvis
Soften and shorted the cervix
Relax the mind and body to ensure a calm final few weeks of pregnancy
Mother warming is a sacred practice in Chinese medicine that utilises moxibustion to stimulate acupuncture points on the body to bring about balance and replenishment to the mother post-birth.
Mother warming is applied on the lower abdomen and a range of other specific points to:
Warm the uterus and channels to promote recovery
Support energy and qi replenishment
Calm the nervous system supporting energy and emotional health
This treatment is generally given from around 5 days - 14 days post natural birth or after 4 weeks post caesarean.
These sessions can also include working on specific concerns such as low milk supply and mastitis.
