Psychology
-
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind, emotions, and behaviour. It helps us understand how people think, feel, and act — both as individuals and in relationships. Psychology explores everything from how we cope with stress, make decisions, and build connections, to how we grow, heal, and find meaning in life.
In therapy, psychology offers practical tools and insights to support emotional wellbeing, improve relationships, and create positive change. It’s not just about treating mental health concerns — it’s about helping people understand themselves better and live more fulfilling, balanced lives.
-
A psychologist is a university-trained mental health professional who specialises in understanding human behaviour and emotions. In Australia, psychologists must be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and listed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
They must have a minimum of six years of university training, engage in ongoing education, and adhere to strict ethical standards. Psychologists use evidence-based therapies and strategies to help people manage challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationship issues, and adjustment to life changes.
Psychologists don’t prescribe medication — instead, they focus on therapy, assessment, and practical interventions that support emotional health and wellbeing. Sessions are collaborative, confidential, and tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals.
